However, with IT budgets remaining flat and cost-containment still a top priority among the majority of IT departments, enterprises are desperately seeking easy-to-scale, low-cost, software-defined storage solutions.
I’m proud to say that QCT, Intel, and our partners are leading the response to this critical need in the marketplace by designing industry standard, simple-to-manage and hyper-scalable storage infrastructure and solutions.
The most recent example of our innovation is QCT’s QuantaGrid SD1Q-1ULH storage server featuring the Intel® Xeon® processor D-1500 product family. Unveiled today, the Intel® Xeon® processor D-1500 product family, is designed to maximize datacenter efficiencies by bringing the performance and advanced intelligence of Intel® Xeon® processors into a dense, lower power System on a Chip form factor.
The QuantaGrid SD1Q-1ULH, a 1U hybrid scale-out storage server, is the ultra-dense, space-conscious storage server on the market. It is ideal for Cloudian HyperStore and Ceph object storage solutions.
With Cloudian’s HyperStore object storage software, the QCT SD1Q-1ULH server with the Intel® Xeon® processor D-1500 offers capacity storage at a game-changing, optimized cost and power performance. The solution is based on a peer-to-peer architecture which means customers simply just need to add another QCT SD1Q-IULH to expand their storage pool. Furthermore, the QCT|Cloudian solution takes advantage of the S3 ecosystem with over 500 applications, delivering unmatched investment protection. The QCT SD1Q-1ULH server offers a great platform for building and deploying an Amazon S3-like hybrid storage solution with seamless mobility to a S3 or S3 API compatible public or private cloud.
For Ceph applications, the SD1Q-1ULH’s hybrid storage reference architecture provides three layers of cache and storage hierarchy; offers embedded 10Gb Ethernet, high core count and low power consumption; and delivers extreme 3,800 MB/s throughput and 10,000 IOPS based on fundamental four scale-out SD1Q-1ULH nodes(*). It provides an ideal, simple building block to achieve attractive $/GB targets and also meet the needs of enterprises and hyper-scale data centers requiring dense, lower power processor solutions.
If you are questioning whether these claims of “game-changing” and “ideal” are nothing more than marketing hype, I invite you to put us to the test—literally. QCT is building an environment for customers to test SD1Q-1ULH storage servers with Cloudian HyperStore object storage solutions and Ceph in our new Cloud Solution Center in San Jose, California. This program will provide 2 fully populated racks of SD1Q-1ULH with several petabytes of storage capacity, a testing environment with millions of investment —and it’s free. The program will start in Q1 2016. Spaces are limited and available on a first come, first served basis. Look for more details to be announced in January.
The storage revolution continues, and the teams at QCT and Intel are continuing to transform the datacenter together.
*The QCT SD1Q-1ULH is configured with one 6-core Intel® Xeon® D1531 processor, dual embedded 10Gb ports, 64GB DDR4 memory, 4x Intel S3610 480GB SSDs and 12x 4TB SATA HDDs.
